Career Overhaul Suite
This mod is a complete overhaul of the game's careers to make career progression more challenging and engaging. This includes a reduction in all pay rates at lower levels, more exponential salary growth with promotion levels for most careers, revised pay rates at higher levels to better align careers with their real-life counterparts and in-game requirements, higher skill requirements across the board, and all-new promotion goals such as degrees, friends, and fame level.
Changes in Rates of Pay
The hourly wage rates for each job have been completely readjusted. The pay curves have been reduced so that wages at lower level jobs start to decline and increase more slowly at the beginning. Pay rates at higher levels are still higher than normal, and the base salary at level 10 has been realigned to better reflect actual careers and the difficulty of the game. Salary increases tend to occur right after the job requires a college degree or after you choose a branch. The overall salary for most careers now has a more exponential growth curve. Promotions now always guarantee a higher weekly salary instead of losing money due to fewer days worked, except in very rare cases for narrative reasons (e.g., leaving a software developer job to become a professional gamer).
New promotion objectives
Careers will now increase their skill requirements more rapidly and will require a greater variety of skills and non-skill requirements. Athletes will need to stay in shape, botanists will need to learn about herbal medicine, doctors will need to take many courses, many careers will require developing and maintaining a certain level of notoriety, and business-oriented careers will see the return of the friend requirement.
Performers have had their skill requirements completely revised. Before your Sim enters a specific branch, any type of performance skill will now satisfy the requirement instead of the specific combination of acting and guitar. Musicians can learn two musical skills to progress; if you want your Sim to be a rock star rather than a pianist, guitar and singing skills will work just as well! Comedians will still need to learn acting, of course, but they will now need to acquire acting skills at higher levels.
Nerves of reward of the diplomas
Most careers will now require a degree of some sort to reach the top, but the starting position for Sims with degrees is now much lower. Honor and Distinguished degrees are still a larger bonus, but now most jobs start around level 4 or 5 with the corresponding degree. Degrees still offer the same bonus in terms of salary and vacation accrual, and playing for college soccer and e-sports teams still offers the same starting position as before.
Changes in employees
Sims will now meet their co-workers passively, while working normally or working hard, but will not develop any relationships with them. Actively socializing with their co-workers will allow relationships to develop at an increased rate.
