Joining secret societies
First things first: to join a secret society, you have to get noticed by its members. That's a tall order when you consider that they're hidden among the throngs of students. A simple way to make yourself known is to make an offering to the statue in your college's central square. Offer a pastry of Excellent level, a rare metal/crystal or a perfect harvest from your garden. Making an offering will grant you a Concentrated state of mind, depending on its quality.
If it worked, the next night members of the organization will come to your house to ask if you want to join the group. Don't panic if you miss them, they only come for that and the interaction is not cancellable, no risk of not seeing them. By joining them, a new group is added to the list and you receive a mysterious outfit.

Worship means ritual. Group events will allow you to meet other members and progress in the Order. Climbing the ranks will allow you to unlock new robes and some interactions like summoning powerful spirits or attacking other Sims with those same spirits. Perform the tasks requested during the meetings and you will earn points. These actions mainly consist of making offerings on the ritual grounds. You should find the necessary crystals, metals and plants nearby.
The altar of rituals also allows you to contact the goblins directly. Depending on your offerings, they will be more or less friendly, which will give you a temporary bonus (or penalty) in your emotions.
