Overview of the new Sims 4 skin colors

A few weeks ago, we shared with you some of our projects for the skin color update  and diversity options in The Sims™ 4, and it's time for us to tell you about it again! Our team has been working hard on this important initiative. Find out what's in store for you in the coming months.

Where are we now?

On October 6, we released an update to the base game* on PC that improved issues with some existing dark skin colors. Specifically, we fixed the problem of color banding on Sims' cheeks and foreheads, which created a mottled and inconsistent look, as well as the problem of discoloration on the tips of their noses. This allowed us to create a consistent color throughout the body, making shadows and details more visually distinct. (You can read more about the details below to see if the update applies to your computer). We've also tweaked the basic game hairstyles Afro and Men's Braids for more realistic detail, texture and style. Console players will notice these changes in the November 10 update.

These improvements are just the first step in our plans to give you the tools you deserve to express and represent yourself.

Important update in December

On December 8, we'll be adding over 100 new skin colors to The Sims 4. Each color will have a value slider to unlock thousands of more customizable options. In addition, we'll be improving compression to make new and existing skin colors look better, including boosting the quality of tans and sunburns.

Our December update also includes the introduction of four makeup sliders to more freely complement any skin tone. The color slider allows you to control your color, while the value slider allows you to adjust the brightness. You will be able to adjust transparency with the opacity slider and control the amount of color in your makeup with the saturation slider. This will allow your chosen makeup looks to look great on your selected skin color.

Finally, three more hairstyles from the base game will be improved in the December update. These are two children's hairstyles (the braided ponytail with baby hair and the braided ponytail without baby hair) and the brush cut.

This is just the beginning

Our goal is to ensure that representation is more inclusive in The Sims 4. To do this, we worked with consultants, including prominent community members such as Game Changers Mia ABDELARDO, EbonixSims, RAO, Xmiramira and CatherineGames. They advised us on how to make the game more inclusive for everyone. They were the ones who suggested adding additional hairstyles without baby hair in the December update, and that's why there are three modified hairstyles instead of the two we announced.

À l’avenir, nous nous engageons à continuer à améliorer Les Sims 4 pour vous donner le jeu que vous méritez. Nous avons hâte de voir ce que vous allez créer, et nous sommes ravis de vous avoir à nos côtés dans ce projet.

Thank you!
