With The Sims 4 Ranch Life expansion, you have several ways to add a horse to your household. You can adopt one from the community panel, you can give birth to one when two horses do the hippity-hop but you can also create one directly from Create A Sims for those in a hurry.

Add a horse to the household
When you're in Create A Sim, all you have to do is click on the button to add a member, then Create An Animal > Add a horse.
The interface is similar to that used to create a Sim, or a dog or cat if you have the pet add-on.
Breed selection
The first thing you'll be asked to do is select a breed for your horse. This will serve as a basis for the animal's physique, but has no other repercussions. You can then personalize everything. You can choose between :

Personalization
So there's plenty of variety if you don't want to spend hours customizing. If, on the other hand, you want to make a more personalized horse, you can modify just about everything in the Sims way by clicking on an area and shaping it. You can choose from predefined body appearances, head shapes, ear shapes and more...
Of course, you can also change the color of the dress. A few basic colors are offered, some more artistic ones, and you also have the return of Paint Mode to make drawings wherever you want, in the shape you want and with the color you want.
If you want to draw patterns on the horse's belly, you can change its position at the top of the CAS.
Clothing
In addition to the horse's color, you can also assign it an outfit. Or two, to be precise. One when he has a rider on his back, which is called a "riding outfit", and an "everyday" one when he's quietly outside or in his stall. The outfits include a bit of everything: saddles, bridles, accessories...
Unicorns in The Sims 4
To dampen your spirits right away, no, unicorns aren't back in the game. Not exactly, anyway. There's no creature as such, as there was in The Sims 3. However, when customizing your horse, you can add a horn.
Once carried, your horse will be considered a unicorn. Unicorns have two minor differences from other horses: they make a "magical" sound, and they glitter when a Sim brushes them.

Horses are divided into three age groups: foal, adult and senior.
Character traits
You can select three traits for your horse from birth:
- Needs affection These horses need regular interaction and approach other Sims.
- Aggressive Makes the animal more difficult to train. Understands more maliciously with Sims
- Friendly Appreciates social interactions. Increases the likelihood of a positive outcome to interactions.
- Courageous Less fear of the weather or hazards. Increases chances of success in show jumping and barrel rolls.
- Fearful These horses are afraid of everything. Increases the time needed to advance the Temperament skill
- Sweet The horse enjoys relaxing. Increases learning speed of temperament skills, but slows down sport-related skills.
- Dynamics Likes activity. Increases the learning speed of sport-related skills and reduces that of Temperament.
- Esprit libre: Enjoys being outdoors and becomes sad if left indoors for long periods.
- Independent Likes solitude and needs less attention
- Intelligent : Increases the speed of learning skills. Good conversational skills
- Rebel Decreases speed of skill learning. Increases risk of failure in show jumping and barrel rolls.
