Hello Simmers! Welcome to a little two-part development blog about our newest item pack, Paranormal! This pack has been a blast to make, and I'm excited to share its contents with you!
I'll try not to reveal too many secrets either. I think a lot of the fun is not knowing what's coming next, so I'll keep it short.
Being afraid
Sims can now revel in the deadly fear of the Scared mood!
The Scared mood affects Sims in a variety of ways, including my favorite, the new Incoherent Screaming interaction, where one Sim runs up to another Sim to scream at the top of their lungs. The other Sim can then either calm the scared Sim or both Sims can become scared.
Sims with moodiness also have difficulty communicating with others, the urge to panic, run around and are slightly more prone to accidents. If no other Sim is around to calm a frightened Sim, they may have to hide under the covers for a while.

Cette récompense réduira rapidement la peur qu’un Sim ressent et aidera les Sims à retrouver leur calme plus rapidement. Bien qu’aucun Sim ne soit totalement sans peur, ce trait devrait aider à atténuer certains de ces sentiments effrayants.
L’humeur effrayante et le trait de récompense courageux sont des caractéristiques de base du jeu qui seront disponibles avec la mise à jour du 21 janvier. Des tonnes d’anciens états d’esprits inconfortables deviennent maintenant des états d’esprits effrayés, comme « Effrayé par un fantôme » ou « Thalassophobe » de Iles Paradisiaques.
If fear is not a common phenomenon in the Sims' daily life, living in a haunted house is a different story...
Haunted places
This is the type of land: the haunted house!
They are like normal houses, but haunted! While modest during the day, these places get super weird at night. Your Sims may notice things like flickering lights, rattling pipes, or even dolls staring at them in the corner. All of these phenomena are completely normal in a haunted house, but it may take some time for your Sims to adjust to their new surroundings.
Sims living in a Haunted House will also be introduced to floating apparitions known as Specters. These are cute little creatures, but their purpose is not entirely clear. You can try to talk to them, or even give them gifts in hopes of establishing a good relationship. If they like you, they will drop off a special treasure for you and your family. If they don't like you, well, you've been warned.
Learning to get along with your new ghostly inhabitants is crucial in a Haunted House. Things like botching seances, neglecting the Spectres, or letting cursed objects invade your home will negatively impact its spiritual serenity. There is a delicate art to coexisting with house entities, and luckily you will have an expert in the field to help you!
Meet GuidryClaude Rene Duplantier Guidry was a seasoned paranormal investigator in his previous life, but now he exists to help anyone brave enough to live in a Haunted House! You'll probably meet him in a Haunted House one day, but don't worry, he's a nice ghost!
Guidry will gladly offer his wisdom to those who seek it. If you're confused, worried, or slightly uncomfortable with your new haunted environment, call Guidry and he may be able to help. He can also offer valuable items to help your Sims; just reach out!
All Guidry wants in return is to move in with you for now. Sounds fair, right? But if you prefer to fly him solo, you can always turn off his nightly visits - he might not be too upset.
As mentioned earlier, Guidry was a paranormal investigator before his untimely death. If he sees potential in you, he may grant you a Paranormal Investigator license, giving you access to Paranormal Investigator missions. Only those who are sufficiently qualified can join the ranks of Paranormal Investigators, but even more so next time!
Be brave!Living in a haunted house adds a layer of risk and reward for your Sims, and each successful night earns satisfaction points for everyone in the household. Specters can also drop treasures that can also be collected, consumed or sold to a Collector. So while your Sims may be at some risk, they will be happily compensated.
One of my favorite haunted treasures is the new Holy Candle. Not only does it look cool, but it also helps protect the Sims from paranormal influences. Place them around your home to make sure the Sims are well protected!

And while it's in your Sims' best interest to control the spirits in the house, watching things unfold in a haunted house can be just as fun. So, do whatever works for you!
Like the mini houses, this type of lot can be activated or deactivated at any time. Whether you're a thrill seeker who wants to spend a few nights in a haunted house or a seasoned paranormal expert who wants to take on a new challenge, this type of lot should offer you something!
Modifications through packsPets can have fun too! They especially love the cursed objects that show up!
As mentioned earlier, a ton of old moodlets from several packs are now converted to Scared moodlets. I think about 70 Moodlets have been converted. Honestly, I lost count. Anything that seemed more appropriate for the Scared mood has been transferred.
Oh, et vous vous souvenez peut-être d’un vieux trait de terrain de Vie Citadine appelé Hanté. Pour plus de clarté, il a fallu le changer de nom. Il a également l’avantage de pouvoir être combiné avec le nouveau type de terrain Maison hantée et aura une chance accrue de faire venir des fantômes la nuit. Utilisez donc les deux pour une hantise maximale !
Seances for everyone!
The seance table is here! Talk to the ghosts! Scare your friends! Summon the unexpected! This thing is capable of all kinds of spiritual interference, and works on any terrain!
Your seance table can also be decorated! This is a relatively simple table, so feel free to put a crystal ball on top, or maybe a sacred candle? You can also place any chair you want!
When you use a séance table, you'll build your Medium skill, unlocking new séances, the ability to hold group séances, and the ability to draw chalk circles anywhere in the world! And if you're a Spellcaster, you'll gain proficiency much faster due to your familiarity with the mystical arts. This skill and the Spiritism table are available for kids and older!
One of the main purposes of the seance table is to perform a ceremony that enhances the spiritual serenity of the house, making it a little less scary. However, if the seance is interrupted for any reason, it can have a negative effect, so make sure your Sims are protected (Hint: holy candles!).
Sessions include the opportunity to commune with the dearly departed. Hopefully, they will offer you a wise thought, or perhaps they will simply insult you. Who knows? Perfect for the holidays.
Ou si vous cherchez vraiment à semer le trouble, vous pouvez aussi invoquer les esprits de la table de spiritisme. Un peu comme un sac à main fantôme, il suffit d’y mettre la main et d’en sortir quelque chose de mort. Une excellente façon de pimenter un peu les choses, ou de les ruiner complètement. Honnêtement, cette séance de spiritisme n’est pas entièrement recommandée, mais depuis quand cela a-t-il arrêté quelqu’un ?
Brunehilde!
Brunehilde is back! She will clean, fix your electronics, garden, fight fires, make snacks, and more! Call her on the Seance Table or via a chalk circle when and where you need her!
It will also be your friend! As long as your Sims don't mind being around a fully conscious skeleton, but I've heard they're pretty open-minded. Brunehilde won't ask for anything in return either, she's just there to have fun.
Summoning Brunehilde is extremely useful when living in a Haunted House, she can help take care of the place while your Sims are busy with other pressing matters. Brunehilde also has great protective instincts, and will quickly and enthusiastically show harmful ghosts the door (with her fists of course).
Paranormal investigators wantedThe last topic I'd like to talk about is the freelance paranormal investigator career. This career is a bit special, and is only available to Sims with a Paranormal Investigator license. Sims can obtain this license by becoming a Master Psychic and getting certified by Guidry, or by purchasing one in the Rewards Store.
This career is for Sims who have mastered the paranormal and will have to use everything they have learned while living in a Haunted House to their advantage.
The missions for this career are quite simple. You will have a choice of 3 missions, either an easy, normal or hard investigation. Once you have chosen your preferred difficulty level, you will be invited at 9:30pm to go to a secret location to conduct an investigation.
Where will the investigation take you? Anywhere! (Well, any residence at least!)
Sometimes the Pancakes will be a bit infested with Specters, sometimes the Gothik Mansion will need an exorcist. It's your job as a paranormal investigator to go wherever the action is and put out the unwanted spirits.
You'll not only be sent to prefab Sim homes, but also to homes you create yourself! Other Sims families you've played with may also need a scary exterminator! And don't worry, the house won't be permanently haunted either (you'll have control over that with the haunted land type!).
Completing these missions on time leads to all sorts of weird and strange rewards. Feel free to hang up your Specter-in-a-Jar as a trophy. Or amass a collection of exorcised dolls! There are tons of strange things to acquire!
Since this is a freelance career, feel free to take these missions whenever you feel inspired to quell some fear. These missions can be demanding on your Sims' minds but fortunately they pay quite well.
