The first details of the manual work kit

En attendant la prochaine phase de votes, SimGuruConor a publié sur le site officiel un article avec quelques infos dans les coulisses du kit communautaire sur les Travaux Manuels.

We learn some interesting details about the new features to come with the kit such as the possibility to preview in the Create A Sim the outfits and accessories that Sims will be able to knit. The knitted outfits will then be accessible to all members of the household. It will also be possible to sell these creations on an online store for your Sims to earn extra money.

Hello, Sims fans! I hope everyone is doing well during this strange time. Stay home, take care of yourself...and maybe play some video games?!

As you all know, or at least I hope you do, our next community item kit* will be knitting! Sims will be able to relax, put on some music and start knitting at will. Knit a stuffed animal! Knit a hat! Knit a mailbox? If that's your thing, we won't judge you. Knitting offers all kinds of creative possibilities for your Sims.

I am the lead designer of this item kit, and today I would like to tell you about the gameplay that will be included in this kit and give you more information about the beginning of the development.

Improvements to Create a Sim

One of the great things we're adding in this item set is the opportunity to knit your own clothes. Sims will be able to unlock exclusive knitted clothing in CUS, making it available to everyone in their household.

I thought this was an important system for knitting, perhaps the most important! While it may seem obvious, keep in mind that most of the clothing in The Sims™ 4 is immediately available to all Sims.

So our idea was to create a new UI that displays locked clothes in Create a Sim. This way you'll be able to see items like sweaters and socks (yes, socks!) before you knit them. It will also show you everything your Sim can create! The knitted clothes have to be special, not just something everyone in town wears (yes I'm thinking of you, eyeball ring!).

To better illustrate what I mean, I've provided some user experience mockups below. What is a user experience mockup? I'm glad you asked that question! Early in the design phase (after the design is written but before it's finalized), our user experience designer (whose job includes designing the user interface) reviews the design and creates images showing what the feature will look like in the game. We can then study these images as a team and make changes until we are satisfied. So when the interface engineers and designers then create the feature, they know exactly what it should look like. Pretty cool, huh?

Step into a world of comfort!

Now let's talk about rocking chairs! For a kit of items about knitting, this seemed right to us perfect.

Rocking chairs work much like regular chairs, but with a few special features! When sitting in a rocking chair, Sims can talk, watch TV, listen to music, read books, and knit. If it works while sitting, we'll try to make it work while a Sim is rocking.

And now let's talk about the elderly Sims. We would like the elderly Sims to have a specific gameplay with the rocking chairs, so we include on these chairs a special interaction called RememberingThe Sims of the Older Generation, which allows older Sims to think back to the past and remember nice things... or maybe not so nice things. Maybe something really embarrassing that they had buried very, very deeply in their minds? Who knows? (I do... but we'll have to wait for the item kit to come out to find out!)

What else does the rocking chair do? Lots of things! But I can't yet all reveal.

Plopsy

Ce kit d’objets inclut également une fantastique caractéristique baptisée Plopsy. Oui, Plopsy.

What is it? It's an online store where Sims can sell their creations! This store is not linked to a career or a contract, so if you want to make some money in an artistic way, Plopsy is there for you.

Being able to sell your knitted items online seemed like an important feature for this item set, and we thought that dragging an item into the Sell button would not be enough. With Plopsy, Sims will be able to put their items up for sale on the Internet by paying a small commission in hopes that a stranger will buy it. Once the item has found a buyer, Sims will have to send the item themselves by going to the mailbox. They can also ignore an offer and try to get a better one.

On Plopsy, you can sell not only knitted items, but also things like paintings and woodworking sculptures! I hope to include as many things as possible that belong in a store like this. Whatever item you sell, you should be able to make more profit with Plopsy than you could selling it the traditional way.

Your Sim can also buy things on Plopsy! If you don't feel like knitting a hat, someone may be selling one. The list of items for sale updates throughout the day, so check back regularly to find the perfect item.

Plopsy is still very new, so I don't have any screenshots to share. But in the meantime, check out this potential logo for Plopsy!

Last (but important) thing...

While I can't share all the information about our upcoming item kit, I hope you at least found this preview interesting!

See you soon, -SimGuruConor
