Apartments in City Life

A new article on the official blog gives details of the apartments, one of the main new features of the City Life expansion.

Living in an apartment means living in a community. We wanted to focus on the community aspect of apartment living, which is so familiar to many members of The Sims team. In the suburbs, it's easy to ignore your neighbors, but not in an apartment! You'll come across them in the common areas of your building, picking up their mail, yelling at your Sims or other neighbors, or just paying you a visit. Maybe they'll take a shower at your place, or taste something that smells so good. As you can see, apartment living is first and foremost about living with other Sims. San Myshuno is populated by captivating Sims with a wide variety of profiles. We can't wait to introduce you to them!

The walls are very thin. Living in communityIt's nice, but promiscuity also has its drawbacks. Or advantages, depending. You may hear music, or the expression of a certain "romance" escaping from some apartments at night. When it gets really unbearable, your Sims can go banging on their neighbor's door and ask him to "turn it down". But that goes for you too! Your Sims neighbors have ears too, and appreciate being quiet. It's all about volume control and respect for others.

The apartments are full of colorful characters. We didn't just want to fill the apartments with Sims, we wanted those Sims to be interesting! Taking inspiration from our favorite TV shows, we tried to make sure that each apartment building was occupied by strange, eccentric, enthusiastic, and sometimes a bit potty-mouthed Sims who would enrich your Sims' lives! And most importantly.

They each have their own particularities. To design The Sims 4 City Life, we remembered stories about strange landlords, strange roommates, and cursed apartments. And we've incorporated them into our expansion pack! Just as Sims can have personality traits, apartments in the game can have characteristics, such as cursed, haunted, or earthquake! Each apartment is unique and we're sure you'll have a lot of fun trying them all out to find the one of your dreams.

Apartments can have problems. Some apartments have flaws that no longer fall into the category of "features" but into the category of problems! Leaky pipes, faulty wiring, pesky animals - no one said living in the city on a budget was easy! Your Sims will have to move to San Myshuno, get a job and work hard to afford better apartments. This is a good thing! These problems feed your scenarios, build your characters... and allow you to get to know your landlord.

You will have to make arrangements with your landlord. Speaking of landlords, each apartment has a benevolent attendant for leaky pipes and hallway complaints, recognizable by his or her overalls. If you have a problem, call your landlord if you don't have the time or inclination to get dirty. Make sure you're on his good side, and don't forget to pay your rent on time so you don't incur his wrath!

The view of the city is magnificent. Apartments may have their faults, but they also offer one of our favorite perks: the view! From their windows, your Sims can contemplate a huge city, full of life and offering all kinds of possibilities. We'll come back to this point later, but your Sims can attend festivals, demonstrations or basketball games in the park. Apartments are a kind of showcase for everything your Sims can do.

The space is limited. You feel cramped ? Break down a wall or build a floor! Oh no, this only works in houses. In an apartment, space is limited, and sharing a flat can pay the rent, but you're even more cramped! Your Sims will have to set their priorities, learn to love their roommates, or go out and have fun at the festival. We've made our basic apartments spartan, both to allow you to tell great stories, but also to give you the ambition to get out!

Close to everything. San Myshuno is itself as crowded as your Sims' apartment.

We can't wait to see your Sims move into their first apartment in San Myshuno, with The Sims 4 City Life, which will be released in November.
